Lazy Days in the Heat
Frankie might love basking in the heat when he’s not at his duties as Curator Cat:
. . . But the truth is, many historic things do not.
(And to be honest, Frankie is looking a little cranky there. Understandable, given that the Harrison House has no AC!)
In fact, if you have heirlooms or antiques that you want to take good care of, summer days can pose a problem—not only because of the heat, but especially because of the sunlight! Many materials fade when exposed to routine sunlight through unshaded windows. You might notice it especially with different types of cloth: sofa coverings, blankets, any clothing that’s on constant display. We here at the museum are working on conserving some of our dresses for that very reason!
As summer hits us all, keep an eye on your furniture and household items, but most of all, take care of yourself. It’s hot out there!
