Caught Napping (Or, Benefits of a Historic House)
“What?” says Frankie. “I wasn’t just lazing in a sunny spot! Not me!”
For as much as we’ve talked about the heat this summer, there are still plenty of days where living in the historic Harrison House is simply . . . lovely. At just over one hundred years old, this house was built and added to with a lot of thought.
Aside from the nice sunny front windows, here are some other great things about living with this much history:
the old kitchen with the massive fireplace, which still smells like woodsmoke when the breeze is just right
the well-worn wood floors (especially good for easily sweeping up Curator Cat hair!)
the nice tall ceilings! We’re lucky to have those in the basement, too!
the little details in the marbled paint in the hallway, the carved railing on the staircase, little cabinets hidden beside chimneys, and more!
It sounds silly sometimes, but I’ve always felt that the Harrison House has a good feeling to it. And that certainly adds to the enjoyment of living here, also! Frankie, for one, has certainly made himself at home.
